SYSTEMS FOR BALED HAY |
Now there's
a safe, yet effective method for preserving baled hay - CropSaver
from New Holland or Thirty Plus from Case IH.
Imagine a product
that's effective in preserving hay yet as gentle as rainwater with
only a pH of 6.0! You can bale all types of hay including alfalfa, grass,
and other crops at a maximum 30% moisture level.
CropSaver and Thirty Plus are
composed of two main ingredients. The first is propionic acid. The
propionic level in CropSaver, although one of the highest in the
industry, is completely safe. That's because the propionic acid in
CropSaver is chemically buffered and neutralized.
The second ingredient
in these products is citric acid. Citric acid has been used safely for
years to preserve food color and smell. In CropSaver, it keeps hay
fresh, maintaining both its fresh smell and green color even after
it's stored.

CropSaver and Thirty Plus for
Large Round Bales:
 |
CropSaver and Thirty Plus work just as effectively on large round bales as it
does on small square bales. Round balers have added baling
capacity so it's important to be set up properly for preservatives
application.
With these products hay can be baled at moistures up to 30%. This allows
the hours of operation to be extended.
Both keep the quality consistent throughout the entire round
bale.

 |
No matter what baler you use, New Holland's CropSaver and Case IH's Thirty Plus applicators
can easily be attached.

Tips for using CropSaver and Thirty Plus:
- Hay moisture levels can change frequently and quickly
so regularly check the moisture levels using a moisture
tester. You'll achieve the most accurate results using a
probe or an in-chamber tester on a finished bale.
- Treat the hay for the highest moisture in the bale. Take
multiple tests and look for the high readings. Don't be
concerned if at times you get an unusually high reading
from a bale slug; just check for a high reading in the rest
of the bale.
- Maintain an accurate record of the baling rate to ensure
that the preservative is being applied properly. Keep in
mind that wet baled hay weighs more than dry hay. Compare
the actual product used against the hay baled on a per bale
(large package) or per load (conventional bale) basis.
- Store hay to eliminate excess moisture. Just make sure
that storage facilities are well-ventilated. If the moisture
migrates to one section of the barn, that location may not
have enough product to protect it as the moisture level
starts to rise.
- Apply the preservative carefully. This product does not
migrate, so make sure that coverage is complete. Consult
with your dealer for the proper nozzle placement on your
specific baling equipment. Since application rates are under
one percent of the hay baled, coverage is critical.
- Never store untreated dry hay on top of treated wet hay.
CropSaver will not migrate when the moisture migrates.
